Inclosure the practice

In this section I look at four parishes which John Martin inclosed. Each has slightly different perspective ; at Plush we look at the objections of some of the commoners to the way the inclosure was carried out. At Rampisham we see Martin drafted in to complete the inclosure when the appointed surveyor was dismissed. Chilfrome shows how inclosure shaped the countryside and at Child Okeford we look at an inclosure ward in detail. Particular emphasis is given to the maps that he made of the parishes.
