Today it is called ‘enclosure’ , then it was universally referred to as ‘inclosure’ and I have followed the same usage. Various aspects of the topic are covered in general detail in the first four sections whilst in the “Inclosure- the theory” section I look at how a hypothetical inclosure was actually undertaken. In the Inclosure- the practice section I look in detail at four inclosures that John Martin undertook at Plush, Rampisham, Chilfrome and Child Okeford. In the parish by parish section I give an overview of the other inclosures he was concerned with.
