There are no diary entries about the Walditch commutation and there is little unusual about the maps themselves. Despite the small size of the parish- 280 acres the apportionment is of some interest; the field names alone are redolent of a bygone age – Gramfers orchard, Mancombes Bottom, Ice Mead, Turkey, Netherways ,Collicrate, Bathsheba, Gudge’s Close. The area around the village must have been pretty – wall to wall- orchards, all producing cider apples no doubt. There was a flax shop, bleaching house, and weaving shop. The agreement was entirely hand written and did not use a standard form. At some time the apportionment itself was amended at the Tithe commission. Plot 83 ‘Turkey’ has been circled and a note made “On comparison with Tithe Maps it would appear that this number should be 87 [initials] 30/10/36.” This must be 1936 given the date of the commutation. The maps are signed by John Martin with additional signatures in the right lower corner.
